Mike Rinder: A Vicious Liar to Be Avoided

Anyone who spends time with Mike Rinder inevitably reaches the same conclusion. He’s as dislikable as they come, and can’t be trusted. Just ask the people who know him best – his former colleagues – and you will get a whiff of the stench he left behind when he was expelled from the Church nearly a decade ago. Having suffered Rinder’s outbursts, his lies, and his stream of put downs, his lazy arrogance and his utter incompetence, they were overjoyed to be rid of him. Which makes it even more outrageous that Alex Gibney and HBO made Rinder – of all people – the face of their Going Clear film, laughingly portraying him as a “hero.” It’s obvious that his dishonesty and spewing lies is of no concern to them. But the people who worked alongside him for decades recognize a sham when they see one. Watch one woman describe her Mike Rinder experience as “ghastly.” Watch others exhaust virtually every description in the dictionary with such terms as “dishonest,” “completely self-centered” “self-important’ “outrageously arrogant” and someone who just plain can’t be trusted. Self-important to the core, Rinder’s screw ups and lying eventually put him on a reverse career track of being repeatedly demoted. He was eventually expelled for malfeasance nearly a decade ago. But Mike Rinder’s toxic combination of arrogance, laziness, lying and vindictiveness was of no concern to Alex Gibney. He made Rinder his poster boy to star in his one-sided anti-Scientology film. In doing so, Alex Gibney, like a shell game, continues to hide the real Mike Rinder from sight.
